Charles "Eddie" Countryman

Charles Edward Countryman (Eddie) of Kinsley, KS., died Monday, September 14, 2020 at the home of his nephew in Kinsley, KS.

Eddie Countryman, son of John D. and Ardis (Cornell) Countryman of Kinsley, KS., was born September 7, 1943, at home in Kinsley.

Eddie graduated from Kinsley High School in 1961 and was employed at Larned State Hospital for 45 years. He retired at the age of 63 and was highly respected for his ability to respond with compassion in difficult and demanding situations.

Eddie not only raised his younger siblings but was such a mentor to his nieces and nephews and lots of other people. Many called him Uncle Eddie. He was a brother, a pal, a parent, a teacher, a mentor, he was funny, brilliant, giving, kind, and meant so much to so many. He lived a life of service, seeing what needed to be done for the greater good of all, and got right to it making sure everyone was taken care of.

He is survived by Wayne & Cheryl Countryman of Manhattan, KS., David Countryman of Emporia, KS., Mary Proberts of Kinsley, KS., Bobbie and Patricia Countryman of Wichita, KS., Julia and Dan Hohn of Nixa, MO., Kathy Countryman of Rock Springs, WY. and Virgil and Kathy Countryman of Emporia, KS.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, (4) brothers James (Jimmy) Countryman, Gene Countryman, Freddie Countryman, Sammy Countryman and sister Elsie Arb.

A memorial service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Kinsley at 10 AM, Friday September 18. The public is invited.

Arrangements are under the direction of McKillip Memorial Funeral Home.
