Connie Caroline Appling, departed this life on Monday, October 19, 2020 at Medicalodge of Kinsley due to complications of Covid-19 virus.
She was born October 5, 1946 in Gleason Hospital in Larned, KS. The daughter of Eula Burns and Samuel F. Nash. She was the next to youngest of five children. A star is born! Connie had infantile paralysis when she was a baby. She did recover from this illness. She attended grade school in Kansas and later went to Parsons State Training School where she was taught skills for challenged children. She became a Certified Nurses Aide working for Kansas Kan, Hill and Dell Resthome at Topeka, KS., International at Wichita, Home Care at McPherson, Siesta I Nursing Home at Haviland. In the early 70's she moved home to Kinsley where she was employed at Medicalodge for over 20 years. There she was named employee of the month. She was a kind caring employee dedicated to caring for others. Connie had many friends. Because of her kind heart she was often taken advantage of.
She married Larry L. Appling on July 7, 1974 at the House of Prayer in Kinsley. He preceded her in death on March 10, 2008.
Connie liked competition and sure liked to win. She enjoyed the dart tournaments and going fishing.
On April 13, 2011 Connie went to live at Medicalodge in Kinsley where she was treated like a queen. She enjoyed all the activities and looked forward to participating. In 2011 Connie was Nursing Home Queen, in 2012 she was the resident of the month. She was a member of The Red Hat Society, she went to the Special Olympics, liked to watch a ball game and loved helping to treat the Halloween Trick or Treaters. She also attended church services. Connie was very proud of her embroidery work, earning third place in Dodge City where she competed with other crafters. Going to movies or seeing the Christmas lights around town was a simple pleasure. This was a happy new life.
Connie is survived by a sister Nancy Trauer of Hanston, a brother Danny Nash of Kinsley, brother-in -law Newton Baker, 15 nieces and nephews, one great nephew, a half sister Rita, half brothers Paul, Dale, Donnie Nash of Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Larry, half brother Howard Allen, brother Samuel (Bubs) Nash, and sister Rosalind (Rosie) Baker.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, October 24, at 2 p.m. At McKillip's Chapel, Kinsley burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
