Earl Glen Jensen, 95, of Kinsley, KS passed August 6, 2016 at the Medicalodge in Kinsley. He was the 7th of 8 boys born to James and Julia Leonard Jensen. He was born on the family farm NW of Kinsley December 10, 1920
He attended 8 yrs at Dist. #7 Highland Country School just south of the family farm. One year he took 2nd place in the county spelling contest.
Earl loved the outdoors. He did his turn helping with chores and work on the farm while growing up and enjoyed telling stories about it.
He served 18 months at CCC Camp driving trucks at Kingsdown, KS while the Clark Co. Lake was being built, 1939-41.
August 25, 1941 he married Ivilene Dallas Cox at Larned, KS. They made their home in Kinsley and had two children, Judith Lynn and Harold Glen.
Earl, a WWll veteran, served with the 814th Tank Destroyer Battalion as a mechanic. While in England his other job was to coat the underneath of the tanks, which meant laying on his back on the damp ground for hours at a time. He developed rheumatic fever and after 2 months in the hospital he was sent back to the states. He received his honorable discharge April 30, 1944.
He was a charter member of VFW Post #7349 and participated with the Honor Guard as long as his health permitted and never missed a Memorial Day service.
In 1948 he attended and graduated from the Moler Systems of Barbering College, Kansas City. He served the Edwards Co. area for over 55 years at his shop downtown then moved shop up to the house for a few years. Sometimes he was the only barber in the county.
He loved time spent with his family, especially the grandchildren. His hobbies were his garden, flowers, and wood working projects.
He was a member of the First Christian Church.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, wife Ivilene, grandson Eric Jensen, and 7 brothers – Elmer, Arthur, James, Woodrow, Leonard, Robert, and Ray.
He is survived by his daughter, Judith Goetzinger (Ron) of Wichita, Ks. and son, Harold Jensen (Pat) of Lake Forest, CA., grandchildren and gt.grandchildre – Lori LaSalle (Bailee & Bryce Ford) LaVergne, TN; Brad Vieux, Wichita, KS; Gina Lira (Zachary, Anna, Jairan, Shae) Oklahoma City, OK; Mandy (James) Reese (Hannah, Lauren, Natalie, Lizzy) Cedar Park, TX; Mitzi (Ray) Roberson (Hunter Ittes) Colton, CA; Davi Bickford (Brandt) Olympia, Washington; sister-in-law Helen Jensen, Roseburg, OR, plus many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held at The First Christian Church in Kinsley, August, 12, 2016 at 10:30 am with Pastor Renee Goodwin. Burial will be at the Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley.
The family has suggested memorials be sent to the First Christian Church, Kinsley or the VFW Honor Guard, Post #7349, all in care of the McKillip Memorial Funeral Home, Kinsley.
