Elaine (Rabe) Katz, 94, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019, at Edwards County Medical Center.
Elaine was born September 14, 1925, to Ruth (Hedges) and William Rabe in Spearville, Kansas. She grew up on a family farm south of Offerle, Kansas, and attended school in Offerle as well. She graduated in 1943 and married Vernon Katz that same year; they were married 74 years, until Vernon’s passing. They lived on the family farm north of Offerle before moving to Kinsley in 1954. Elaine was the mother of four children, a homemaker and farm wife, and an active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kinsley where she was a church organist as well as a member of LWML. Elaine loved music, gardening, sewing, dancing, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her four children, Lyle Katz (Alice), Kinsley, Carole Matter (Paul), Beloit, Jeana Padgham (Mike), Kinsley, and Thane Katz, Mesquite, TX; grandchildren, Dallas Katz (Belinda), Jude Matter (Heather), Megan Young (Scott), Katrina Jones (Kevin), Mitchell Matter (Lyssa), and Annie Regier (Colton); step-grandchildren, Wayde Kline (Kimberly), Tammie Wilkinson, Shelly Mowry (John), and Amy Panzer (Shawn); 12 great-grandchildren; 15 step great-grandchildren; and eight step great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Wilda Bartman (Kenny) and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, daughter in-law Mary Ann Katz, grandson Ashley Katz, and brother Ethan Rabe.
Funeral service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kinsley on Monday, October 7, 2019, at 2 pm, followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Kinsley, or Edwards County Healthcare Foundation.
