Eldon Wayne Unruh, 88, passed away March 18, 2022 at North Naples Hospital in Naples, Florida.
A Kansas native, Eldon was born April 9, 1933, in Garden City, Kansas to Elmer and Malinda Unruh. He grew up in Greensburg, Kansas before joining the United States Army in 1953. He proudly served his country and was discharged at the rank of corporal in 1955.
Eldon married Myrna Ann Albertson on October 22, 1955. The couple resided in Kinsley, Kansas, where they raised their three children. Eldon owned and operated a truck for many years and made countless drives across the United States. His family and friends enjoy recalling stories he shared about his experiences on the road. During the 1970s, he also founded and operated Unruh Hay Service. Together, Eldon and Myrna celebrated 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2005.
In his free time, Eldon enjoyed being on the move and being outdoors. He spent countless weekends camping and boating with family, and riding motorcycles. Eldon also held a pilot’s license and frequently flew small aircraft.
On November 24, 2006 Eldon married Elnora M. Unruh. The couple resided in Florida and spent many happy years together.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dennis, Dale, and Ivan Unruh; sister, Neva Schmidt; his first wife, Myrna Unruh; son, Dennis Unruh; daughter-in-law, Toni Unruh; and stepson, Merlin Unruh.
He is survived by his wife, Elnora, of the home; two daughters, Veronica (Timothy) Kirkwood of Sadler, Texas, and Jane (Stephen) Kirkwood of Kinsley, Kansas; ten grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two stepdaughters, Connie (Peter) Padillo of Fort Myers, Florida, and Debra (Raimond) Marx of St. Petersburg, Florida along with their children and grandchildren, and many extended family members.
Funeral Service will take place at McKillip Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, March 30th at 10 a.m. in Kinsley, Kansas. Graveside service to follow. Arrangements are under the direction of McKillip Funeral Home.
