Gary Wayne Jarvis

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Jarvis age 72 on Friday, October 11, 2024. Gary was born August 1, 1952, in Kinsley, Kansas to Vernon Robert and Levada Marcille (Thornton) Jarvis.

Gary attended the North Side Lincoln Elementary School to the 8th grade and graduated from Kinsley High School in 1970. He always enjoyed the annual school reunions to connect with his classmates.

In 1974, Gary met Frances (Castaneda) while they both worked at Cross Manufacturing in Kinsley. They were married on November 8, 1975, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Belpre, Kansas. They were blessed with two children; Jeremy and Amy. In December 2001, their first grandson, Evan, was born. Life would never be the same! In February 2016, their second grandson, Joey, was born and life got even more exciting! Then the earth shook in October 2018, when their granddaughter, Kennedy, was born. Just when they thought life couldn’t possibly get any better, they were blessed with a great grandson, Hunter, in April 2024. Gary’s children and grandchildren gave him strength during rough times and pride all the time.

Gary lived a life full of love for his family and gratitude for the friends he made along the way. He was a man proud to take care of his own business and worked so hard to provide for his family. For years Gary mowed yards to make extra money, in addition to always having a full-time job. At one point he mowed 30 plus yards in the Kinsley area. Gary had a wealth of knowledge; he was mechanically inclined and could work on almost anything. His family knew that if he couldn’t repair something, then it was trash! Gary was most proud of the work he did on the family home. He completely remodeled it when Jeremy and Amy were young, adding a second floor to the home, which was not an easy undertaking. Gary was especially interested in his family history. He spent many hours at the Kinsley Library doing research and over the years had built a wealth of genealogy knowledge. He embodied the best of qualities, unconditional love and strength of spirit.

Gary was a supervisor at the Kansas Department of Transportation. After 30 years with the state, he retired in 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Vernon, Bob, Alvin and Dean Jarvis. He is survived by his wife Frances, his brother, Dale (Stacie) Jarvis, of Wichita, his children, Jeremy (Michelle) Jarvis, of Kinsley, and Amy (Zane) Martin, of Kinsley , grandchildren; Evan (Amanda) Johanning, of San Clemente, CA., Joey Jarvis, Kennedy Martin and great-grandson, Hunter Johanning.
