Jacob Byron "Jake" Roenbaugh

Jacob Byron Roenbaugh, 89, passed away on July 3, 2021, at his home in Kinsley Kansas after a short illness. He was born at his childhood home in Fellsburg, Kansas on Nov. 6, 1931. He was the son of Mildred and Gordon Roenbaugh. He spent his childhood in Fellsburg, helping his parents on the farm, and developing a work ethic second to none.

Jake graduated from Trousdale High School in 1949 and went on to attend Washburn University before joining the Coast Guard, just before the Korean War. He served 3 years active duty and more years in the Reserves. Jake married the love of his life, Susan Elizabeth Etling, in 1952 in Kinsley, Kansas. Thereafter, Jake and Susan made their living as farmers and ranchers in Edwards County. In 1988 they moved from their farmhouse west of Fellsburg to their current home in Kinsley.

Jake was active with the Edwards County Historical Society and Museum and the Rotary Club. For many years, he served on the Kansas State Board of Agriculture, the State Fair Board, and also as an advisor to the Kansas Jr. Quarter Horse Association. He loved playing golf at the local Kinsley golf course.

Jake is survived by this wife of 69 years, Susan Roenbaugh; three children and their spouses—J. William and Shirley Roenbaugh of Trousdale, KS; John and Brenda Roenbaugh of Lewis, KS; Gina and Mark Greene of Garfield, KS—and one sister, Virginia Holstine and her husband Jay, of Dallas, Texas.

He will be greatly missed by his six grandchildren, who knew him as “Grampy”: Christopher Roenbaugh, Katie Schwalb, Brandon Roenbaugh, Tawnya Roenbaugh, Luke Greene, and Clark Greene; as well as his nine great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Monday, July 5 at 4:00 PM at the Fellsburg cemetery, Bishop Cowell officiating.

In leu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Edwards Co. Museum, Hospice of the Prairie, or the Kinsley golf course.
