James Raymond Gleason, 96, died Friday, December 28, 2018. He was born
January 18, 1922 to James Daniel and Helen (Quealy) Gleason. He was a
World War II veteran, having graduated early from Fort Hays State
University to enlist in the U. S. Army Air Corp. He served in India and China
as an airplane mechanic. On May 23, 1946 he married Rosanna Dauber at
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Russell, Kansas. They celebrated 72 years of
marriage. James was a lifelong farmer and stockman. He served on the
Hodgeman County ASCS committee for over twenty years.
He is survived by his wife Rosanna; children Greg (Jean Anne) of Halstead,
Janice (Lou) Scott of Dodge City, Carol (Roy) Soukup of Ellsworth, and
Martin (Jennifer) Gleason of Offerle; grandchildren, Angela (Tim) Novotny,
Sheena (Adam) Alt, Andrea (Andy) Tully, Brendan (Jarin) Gleason, Mary
Beth (Jake) Hencke, Nathan Gleason, Janelle Scott, Shane Scott, Renee
(Adam) Hein, Troy (Mary) Soukup, Christine (Daniel) Mushrush, Brett
Gleason, and Caitlen Gleason; great grandchildren, Claire and Blake
Novotny, Jack, Henry, Oliver, and Adelaide Alt, Kennedy, Collin, and Tanner Tully, Brienna, Liam, and Declan
Gleason, Natalie, Michael, Rachael, and Andrew Hein, Sheridan and
Weston Soukup, Sadie, Bella, Kate, and Eli Mushrush; two sisters,
Catherine Hattrup of Kinsley and Theresa Aistrup of Hanston; three
sisters-in-law, Darlene Gleason of Dodge City, Lucille Gleason of Wichita,
and Carolyn Gleason of Spearville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents; one grandson, Alex Gleason; three brothers, Thomas, Maurice, and Marvin Gleason; and one sister, Alice Marie Burkhart.
Vigil service will be 7pm on Sunday December 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hodgeman County.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church, at 10:30 am on Monday December 31, 2018 with Fr. John Strasser presiding. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
