Leona JoAnn Boggs, 89, Hays, died Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at HaysMed, surrounded by family.
She was born May 12, 1933 in Norton County, Kansas, the daughter of William Henry and Nancy (Spencer) Roe. She was a 1951 graduate of Norcatur High School. On June 2, 1951 she was united in marriage to Lewis Dean Boggs in Norton, and they celebrated over 65 years of marriage before he preceded her in death on September 11, 2016. JoAnn was a member of Hays First United Methodist Church and the church quilting group. Her hobbies included gardening, crafting, and woodworking, and she was a wonderful cook, known for baking delicious bread and homemade rolls. Her family thought of her as a great teacher who passed her wisdom on to them.
Survivors include her three sons: Randolph “Randy” Boggs and wife Karen Dreiling of Hays, Barry Boggs and wife Patti of Kinsley, Steven Boggs and wife Kathy of Schoenchen, a daughter: Deanna Herrman and husband David of Hays, a brother: Jarrold Roe of Derby, two sisters: Phyllis LaSalle of Oberlin and Linda Henry of Atwood, five grandchildren: Trevor Boggs and wife LaRee, Derick Boggs and wife Diane, Randee Olive, Sara Branham and husband Carlos, and Lacy Boggs, ten great grandchildren: Austin Boggs and wife Chase, Andrew Boggs, Tristan Olive, Teixeira Olive, Braedan Boggs, Trexynn Olive, Kyndall Branham, Ellie Branham, Kinsley Boggs, and Jaelyn Sweet and a great-great grandson: Kallen Tate Boggs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dean, a brother: Robert Roe, and four sisters: Dolores Shay, Karren Hewett, Judy Acardia, and Peggy Kintigh.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Ron DeVore officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hays Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Thursday and from 9:30 am until service time on Friday, all at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Hays First United Methodist Church.
