Leonard Katz, 87, of Kinsley, Ks passed away November 13, 2015 at St Luke’s Hospice House, Kansas City, KS. He was born on the family farm May 30, 1928 to Will and Meta (Tutchenhagen) Katz. On August 3, 1961 he married his beloved wife Irene Burkhart and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage and living at the farm. She preceded him in death February 5, 2010. As a young man Leonard served his country in the army and then returned home to the farm where he worked a variety of jobs until he and his brother LaVerne partnered together farming until Laverne passed away in July of 1993.
Leonard was a peaceful man that loved life, family, his community and country . He strove to live life to the fullest and continued farming until he was 86 years old. Leonard never stopped planning and looking forward to a new crop whether it was wheat or the next generation on their way up. God’s purpose for Leonard was to treat others as you would want to be treated, and to teach that to his family. The grandchildren all have many memories of Grandpa taking them out to swing, ride in the tractor, even play a board or card game, and “fixing” things.
Leonard was preceded in death by his brothers Billie, Laverne, and Jerry.
He is survived by his daughters, Lorene (Wes) Faulconer of Kansas City, Missouri and Loretta (Ozzie) Binford of Corsicana, Texas. There are 6 grandchildren: Raven (Brad) Bobbitt, Nicholas (Janelle) Faulconer, Natasha Faulconer, Mikhail Faulconer, Audrey Binford, Isabella Binford and great grandson Eli Bobbitt.
