Lester Corpening, 94, of Kinsley, Kansas, passed away December 13, 2015 at Medicalodge of Kinsley, Kansas. He was born September 22, 1921 in Allen, Kansas to Jesse Jay and Bertha (Thomas) Corpening. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Elkhart, Kansas. Lester retired from Elkhart School District after many years of service as custodian and bus driver. He loved gardening, fishing and playing cards.
In 1949 he married Aledia Tyson, who preceded him in death in 1950. He married Geneva Nester on November 15, 1952. Survivors include: his wife Geneva, seven children; Lester Paul Corpening, and friend Linda Bagrich of Amarillo, TX., Arol (Dan) Corpening and wife Robin of Hugoton, KS., Cynthia and husband Kenneth Sonday of Dodge City, KS., Dennis Theodore and wife Isela Corpening of Hugoton, KS., Deanna and husband Michael Habiger of Kinsley, KS., Val Corpening and friend Brittany Riffey of Scranton, KS., and Dallas Corpening and friend Melody Evans of Grand Junction, CO., seventeen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Aledia, six siblings and one great grandson Samuel Habiger.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 17 from 9am to 8pm with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8pm at McKillip Memorial Funeral Home in Kinsley, KS. Services will be held at the First Christian Church in Kinsley at 2:00pm Friday, December 18th with burial to follow in Hillside Cemetery, Kinsley.
