Lillian Jean (Colter) Thompson

Lillian Jean Thompson, 79, passed away August 31, 2024, at the Hilltop House in Bucklin, KS, after a long battle with dementia. Born in Coldwater, KS on October 5, 1944, she was the daughter of Willard and Mildred Colter.

A graduate of Coldwater High School, she later attended Pratt Community College. A Kansas resident for most of her life, she also spent many years in New Mexico.

In January of 1962, Lillian married Richard “Dick” Otho Young in Coldwater, and four children were born of that union. She later married, Richard “Dick” Thompson in 1981. She lived the past several years with companion, John Friesen.

Survivors include John Friesen of Newton, KS; Her two sons, Conley Young (Krysty) and Cliffton Young (Nancy) both of Larned, KS. Two daughters, Cynthia Streid of Wichita, KS and Charla Johnson (Timothy) of Cuba, NM. A brother, Kenneth Colter (Verda) of Coldwater, KS and two sisters, Joyce Heft also of Coldwater, KS and Mary Shafer of Cherokee, OK.

Ten grandchildren; Wayne Young (Taylor) of Larned, KS, Riki Young of Great Bend, KS, Micah DeWeese (Josh) of Cherryvale, KS, Christine Streid (Emily), and Jesse Streid (Ashley) all of Wichita, KS Jeff Streid (Ashley) of Colorado Springs, CO, Lee and Jacob Johnson of Cuba, NM. Chelsea Beisner (Jason) of Pratt, KS, and Chase Young (Kimberly) of Ripon, WI.

14 great grandchildren; Aubree & Silas Young, Gunnar & Wiley DeWeese, Norah Streid, Vaeda Streid, Jaylee, Clowie, Caisey, Jackie, & Jonas Beisner, Wesley, Hadley, & McKenna Young, as well as numerous nieces & nephews.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, two brothers, Jacob Willard “JW” and Robert Lee Colter, one sister, Madeline Sue Koehn, & a nephew Christopher Ira Colter.

A celebration of life will be held in Coldwater on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Community Building at 11:00am.
