Margaret Elvine (Lemke) Schnoebelen

Margaret Elvine Lemke Schnoebelen, age 99, left this world on December 18, 2018 in New Castle, DE after living a full, interesting and enjoyable life.  Margaret was born to Emmaline Schlump and Peter Lemke September 29, 1919, in Muscoda, WI.  She graduated from Muscoda High School and attended Madison, WI Business College.  After taking a civil service exam she worked at Wisconsin General Hospital in Madison as a secretary, where she met her future husband, Rene E. Schnoebelen, M.D.  After a long distance courtship, (he returned to Oklahoma to complete his residency, she stayed in Wisconsin) they were married January 3, 1942.  He joined the Navy, that year.  Upon completion of his residency, he was ordered to the Pacific Theater in December, 1943.  After the war, they settled in Kinsley, KS., where she remained for 69 years.  Two daughters were born to this union.  Margaret liked people and threw herself into volunteer work: the Red Cross and Blood Bank, Girl Scouts, the local Catholic Church, St. Nicholas, where she was an organist for many years, two school boards, the Kinsley Library Board, and the local Music Club where she helped with many plays.  She also served as Chairwoman of Edwards County Republican Party and was a founding member of Kinsley Pride and Twice is Nice thrift store.  After the death of her husband in 2002, she decided she needed to be nearer to family, so found an apartment in New Castle close to her oldest daughter and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She completed the move in 2015, reluctantly leaving her friends and relatives behind.  She maintained those friendships with frequent calls and letters.  Her funeral will be held at St. Nicholas Church, Kinsley, KS on April 27, 2019.  Burial will take place at a later date in Mooreland, OK.

She leaves her daughters, Renee Rousseau (Jerome), Shade Calhoun (Jimmy), three grandchildren, Christian Rousseau (Gail), Stacey Costantino (Jay), and John Calhoun, and three great grandchildren, Grayson Rousseau, Jack Costantino and Ty Costantino, and many other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be sent to St. Nicholas Community Center and/or Edwards County Hospital in care of McKillip Funeral Home, Box 304, Kinsley, Kansas.
