Marshelle "Shelly" Rose (Burkhart) Kuhn

On July 25, 2020 Marshelle “Shelly” Rose Kuhn, loving wife, mom, aunt, and nana passed away at the age of 66 after an 11 month battle with cancer. She passed away in the comfort of her own home while on hospice care. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.

Shelly was born on November 21, 1953 in Larned, KS to Harold and the late Fran Burkhart. She was known as big sister to Sherry Burkhart, Debbie McAvoy, Melanie Wheeler, and the late Stephanie Carothers. She met and started dating what would be her husband Scott Kuhn Sr. while attending Kinsley High School. They eloped October 30th, 1969 in Victoria, TX then returned and made Kinsley their home.

She gave birth to 3 children that had the pleasure of calling her mom; Scott Kuhn Jr. from Smith Center, Van Kuhn from Larned, and Melissa Mermis from Overland Park. She had 6 beautiful grandchildren; Erin Aistrup, Brady Kuhn, Sierra Kuhn, Marshelle Conley, Dalton Kuhn, Kaicen Kuhn and left behind 2 great-grandchildren Gentry and Tanner Aistrup.

Housewife and proud mom was her primary occupation but through the years she helped out at the family business Burkhart Meats, worked at the local grocery store, pharmacy and also worked at Medicalodge where she got to be the smiling face that greeted visitors and residents each day in her office.

Shelly was passionate about a lot of things throughout her life. Her yard and flowers were always the prettiest on the block, and she enjoyed planting and canning vegetables from her garden. She loved baking and cooking for her family and made the best home made comfort foods around. She was an avid cleaner and thoroughly enjoyed keeping a spotless house! Crocheting blankets, sewing clothes, reading, and attending arts and craft festivals with family were also things she did in her spare time. Her love of jigsaw puzzles has been passed on for generations. On Sunday’s much to most of America’s dismay you could find her cheering on the Oakland Raiders. Shouting from the stands cheering on her kids and grandkids was something she also took great joy and pride in.

Shelly and Scott celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last fall. Through their years together their mutual interests ranged from motorcycle trips, boating, watching movies, football, spending time at the lake, traveling, and camping in the RV. Their love and devotion to each other was remarkable and unending.

Viewing is scheduled for Tuesday from 9am-7pm at McKillips Funeral Home in Kinsley and service will be on Wednesday at 10:30.
