Maxine Lubbers Jones passed away peacefully at her home in Hollister, MO, on April 20, 2023 at 1:30 am surrounded by family. She was born on November 3, 1940 in Kingman, KS, to Evelyn Forster Lubbers and John Bernard “Ben” Lubbers. Her mother passed away when she was only 2 ½ years old. Maxine then went to live with her Grandmother Lubbers until she was old enough to go to 1st grade in a two-room schoolhouse. She lived with her Dad on a farm until she moved to Kingman, KS. Maxine moved to Wichita, KS, in 1958 where she met Wilbur Wylie Jones while working at Greg’s Cafe. They were married on June 6, 1959. To this union were born twins in Wichita, KS, on March 14, 1960: Denise Maxine and Donald Wylie Jones.
Later in 1960 they moved to Lewis, KS. Wilbur worked at Cross Manufacturing for 21 years and then Larned State Hospital for 14 years as a machinist. Maxine worked at Larned State Hospital for 27 years as a Licensed Mental Health Tech 2. While working there, she obtained her Associate Degree. Maxine enjoyed many years camping with her husband and children. After retiring, they moved to Hollister, MO, in 1999 and spent winters in Alamo, TX. When Wilbur died in 2007, Maxine continued going alone to Alamo until 2019, as she had numerous friends there. In total, she spent 20 winters in the warm Texas sunshine playing cards and adventuring with her friends daily.
Maxine leaves behind many wonderful legacies to her children and grandchildren including her faith. She was an avid cook (always trying new recipes), a lively card player, and the host of too many family dinner nights to count. Maxine enjoyed playing cards and dominos with her loving church community at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Branson, MO.
Maxine is survived by her son Donald (Carol) Jones, her daughter Denise (Richard) Rasmussen, plus 4 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings (Virginia, Clyde and Teresa), plus one step grandson. Maxine’s visitation will be at McKillip Funeral Home in Kinsley, KS, on Monday April 24th from 4-7pm and her funeral will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Kinsley, KS, on Tuesday April 25th at 10:30 am. Graveside services will be held at Wayne Cemetery in Lewis, KS, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband Wilbur.
In her passing, Maxine’s kindness continues, as she had requested donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in lieu of flowers.
