Miriam (Gleason) Komarek passed away on April 16, 2025. She was born March 1,1934 to Vinny and Esther Gleason the oldest of nine children.
Miriam grew up near St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hodgeman County, KS where she would attend grade school. She would later attend high school in Spearville, KS graduating in 1952. She continued her education at St. Mary’s College in Dodge City, KS.
On February 15, 1955, Miriam married Robert “Bob” Komarek. They had two children, Nancy and William (Bill) Komarek. Miriam worked at the Spearville News Printing for many years while the family made their home in Spearville. She was a long-time member of St. John’s Catholic Church and most recently St. Nicholas Catholic Church of Kinsley.
Miriam enjoyed sewing, refinishing old furniture, playing cards, planting flowers, taking care of her yard, and having a toddy with friends and family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren Nicholas and Preston supporting them in their many activities over the years. She cherished time with her grant grandchildren Alyssa, Clutch, Eli, and Slade visiting often and telling stories of life before technology.
Miriam is preceded in death by her parents Vinny and Esther Gleason, children Nancy Klenke and Bill Komarek, brother Jim and Layton Gleason, and great grandchild Clutch Klenke. She is survived by her brother Ronnie Gleason (Offerle, KS), Tim Gleason (Phoenix, AZ), Ted Gleason (Halstead, KS), and sisters Carolyn Degnan (Ashland, KS), Nancy Widget (Bartlesville, OK), Mary Smith (Cimarron, KS) and many nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be at 1:30 pm followed by Mass @ 2 pm on Monday April 21 at St. Nicholas Church in Kinsley, KS. and burial will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Spearville, KS.
