Norma Alene Kingry, 103, passed away on September 25, 2024, at Ruble Ranch in Overbrook, Kansas.
She was born on April 29, 1921, to Jesse Remer and Ruth Crockett on their farm north of Burdett. The family moved to a farm north of Kinsley when Norma was very young. She went to grade school and junior high school at a one-room school, often riding a horse with her older brother. She graduated from Kinsley High School in 1939.
On July 27, 1939, Norma married Woodson Kingry. They lived at the Kingry homestead in Hodgeman County until 1951, when they moved to the farm north of Kinsley. They were blessed with six daughters. Norma was a hard-working farm wife and mother, helping Woodson with all aspects of farming.
She was a member of the Congregational Church of Kinsley and was also a member of Amigas, the church's women's group. When they had bake sales, her pies were always in demand.
Norma was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was always there with a helping hand or a sympathetic ear. Her children's needs were more important to her than her own. She most often was smiling, and she had a knack for making people feel special. Her concern for others was unparalleled.
She loved growing flowers and reading.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Woodson on December 13, 1995; two brothers, Remer and Cecil Crockett; one sister, Beulah Lamb; three daughters, Alberta Dennis, Sandra Hornung, and Connie Coover; two grandchildren, Timothy Hyland and Angela Hyland; and four sons-in-law, Thomas Hyland, Courtney Coover, Dennis Konrade and John Hearn.
Surviving her are three daughters, Charlene Hyland, Nancy Konrade and Priscilla Hearn; five grandchildren, Byron Hornung (Tracy), Barclay Hornung (Meredith), Jackie Corbett (Jeremy), Creighton Coover (Julie) and Lisa Wren Walraven (Wezil); one son-in-law, George Hornung; one grand-daughter-in-law, Annette Hyland; twelve great-grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the employees of Ruble Ranch for their loving care for the past three years.
