Randall Robert Mcelwain

Randall Robert McElwain, age 51, of Kinsley, KS, passed away unexpectedly on November 16, 2024.

Randy was born on February 16, 1973, in Phillipsburg, KS, to Debi Martin Seybold and Dave McElwain. A 1991 graduate of Dodge City High School, he had a passion for baseball and made many life-long friends through the sport.

He went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in animal science from Kansas State University.

Randy married Jackie (Schmitt) McElwain on April 24th, 1999. They welcomed daughter Madison Ann on November 3rd, 2000. A big “John Wayne” fan, Randy hoped to name his daughter “Rooster” but settled for calling her “Madi Roo”.

Randy had a deep love for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. When not enjoying nature, he could often be found in his "man cave" cheering on Kansas State football and Royals baseball. He also loved cooking for others, with pulled pork being his specialty.

An unofficial meteorologist, he would even call the weather station to let them know his expert opinion. Although mainly laid-back, Randy was more than particular about his haircuts - Every two weeks on the dot. He spent nice days of the golf course (mostly in the rough) and was always down for a game of Chicken Foot Dominoes.

Family was his number one priority. He spent many hours cheering on Madi and stepdaughters Krystle, Chelsea and Sierra through various sporting events. He would often challenge them to a driveway free-throw contest or a game of HORSE. The family enjoyed many trips to Colorado together over the years.

He spent many years farming with close friends, Schaller Brothers, but was most recently employed with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a career that aligned well with his passion for agriculture.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie; his daughter, Madison; and his stepdaughters, Krystle (Jacobs) Sandman, Chelsea Schmitt, and Sierra Schmitt. He also leaves behind his parents, Dave McElwain and Charmaine Frickey, and Debi and Sam Seybold; his sister, Carrie (Charlie) Day; his brother, Brett (Shandria) Seybold; and numerous extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department, EMS, and everyone who supported them during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 21, at 11:00 a.m. at McKillips Funeral Home in Kinsley, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Randy’s honor may be made to the Edwards County Healthcare Foundation.

Randy’s love for life and spirited energy will be forever cherished.
