Richard Mathias Dockendorf

Richard Mathias Dockendorf passed away Friday September 20, 2024, at Edwards County Hospital in Kinsley, KS.

He was born September 2,1936, in Dodge City, Kansas, the son of Mathias and Mary Havas Dockendorf.

He attended school at St Peter and Paul Grade School and Windthorst High School.

In 1956 he enlisted in the United States Army for 2 years and was stationed in Germany.

After returning home he started farming with his dad and uncles.

On August 10,1961, he married Judith Bogner in Dodge City, Kansas.

He was an active member of first Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church and then St Nicholas Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus council #2131 3rd and 4th degree Knight, VFW Honor Guard, Sexton of the St Peter & Paul Cemetery for 50+ years, and a member of the Sunflower Polka Club.

Richard is survived by his children Donna and Kerry Froetschner, Rozel KS, Janice and Kevin Rabe, Spearville KS, and Andy and Shawna Dockendorf, Kinsley KS. Grandchildren Nikki and Josh Cooper, Katie and Logan Durler all of Hays KS, Brittney and Junior Hollerich Tipton KS, and Mathias Dockendorf Kinsley, KS. Four very special great granddaughters Lilly Cooper, Lakyn Durler, Jordyn Durler, Clara Hollerich and great grandson Michael Cooper. Sisters Geraldine Habiger Kinsley KS, Virginia Ryan, Dorothy Trenkamp, and Rosann and Dave Tasset all of Spearville, KS. Sister-in-law Arlene and Bud Busch, Dodge City. And a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and nephews, most of whom knew him as “Uncle Bud.”

His wife Judy proceeded him in death on Feb 26,2024 after 62 years of marriage. Also proceeding him in death were his parents, and brothers-in-law Joe Habiger, Ray Ryan, and Tony Trenkamp.

Vigil service will be held Tuesday September 24, 2024 at 7:00 pm and funeral mass Wednesday September 25, 2024 at 10:30 am both at St Nicholas Catholic Church Kinsley with Father Tim Hickey presiding. Burial will be at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery followed by lunch at St Nicholas Parish Center.

In Lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery Association or St Nicholas Catholic Church.
