Sue Werner Nystrom, age 83, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024 in Dodge City, KS. She was born October 14, 1940 in Kinsley Kansas to Hugo and Laura Werner. She attended Saint Peter and Paul School and Kinsley High School where she graduated in 1958.
Sue married Fred Nystrom on August 6, 1959, at Saint Peter and Paul Church, Kinsley, Kansas. The couple moved around the area some before settling in Dodge City where they raised 3 children. She was a homemaker until her children were grown, then cared for a local child before working as the supervisor of the lunch program at Sacred Heart School in Dodge City until her retirement. Sue was a member of the Kansas Genealogy society for many years.
Sue was the fourth of eight children raised on the family farm in Edwards County, Kansas. She loved to be outside with her brothers and the animals and was a member of 4-H club, choir and pep club as well as the church organist.
Sue was an excellent homemaker, dedicated wife, mother and daughter. She was a wonderful cook, although cooking wasn’t her favorite task, she made sure to serve 3 good meals a day, always on time! She loved flowers and gardening and could make anything grow. Sue enjoyed dressing up and having her hair done to go dancing with Fred in their younger years and was never seen without her signature red lipstick! Music was especially important to her and she was an excellent pianist. Sue loved reading, jigsaw puzzles and kept her mind sharp with daily crosswords. She greatly enjoyed traveling, especially to Colorado to visit family.
Family was her life, she helped take care of everyone it seemed, not only her husband and children, but her parents, in-laws and siblings. Sue always put the needs of others before her own and never missed sending birthday, special occasion and thank you cards and letters to her friends and family. She believed in the personal touch of handwritten correspondence. She was proud of her heritage and spent many hours researching family history. Sue was smart and sassy with a wit loved and appreciated by everyone. She never took herself too seriously and always found the good in others and beauty in her surroundings. Her kindness will be remembered by all who knew her.
