Walter James (Jim) Mowrey, 91, passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the home of Thomas Mowrey, his youngest son. There will be a committal service at the Hillside Cemetery outside Kinsley, Kansas on Friday, November 5th at 2 pm.
Jim was born March 6, 1930 to Magnus and Carrie Bell Mowrey in Rozel, Kansas. Jim was a lifelong Kansan and graduated from Dodge City High School in 1947. He was also a graduate of the Dodge City School of Electronics, scoring a 100% on every exam that he took.
Following his graduation, Jim went to work for the A.T.&S.F. railroad, retiring after 40 years of service. Also, Jim became an RCA television repairman for several years.
Jim was a lifelong sports enthusiast. One summer he even played minor league ball. After a while, he began to spend his summers coaching baseball. But his true passion was his boys and radio controlled airplanes. But he loved nothing better than being the husband to his wife, Beryl.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Magnus and Carrie Bell Mowrey, his wife, Beryl, his sister, Wanda Jean, and one grandson, Scott.
Jim is survived by his three sons, Larry (Penny), Robert, and Tom (Cindy), grandchildren: Joshua, James, Jonathan, Wendy, Yolonda, Tonya, and TJ, and great-grandchildren: Beckham, Brooklyn, Halley, Matthew, Kyra, Hailey, Savanna, Aurora, Leia, Violet, Kaydence, Gunner, and numerous other loving family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
